A door upstand is a vertical section which is is placed at the bottom of a door opening. Its primary function is to provide a structural support for the door without creating heat loss.
In Ireland and the UK, a common approach to door upstand installation involves the use of insulated upstands, such as the Triotherm Insulated Door Upstand.
The most prevalent method involves placing the Triotherm Insulated Door Upstand on top of the existing subfloor (raft). This ensures that the upstand aligns with the floor insulation, minimizing heat loss. If the subfloor hasn't been extended to cover the entire door opening, it's advisable to do so before installing the upstand.
In case the floor is finished to the final height already, the Triotherm Insulated Door upstand can be bolted against the face of the slab.
The final layout of the Triotherm Insulated Door Upstand is always dependent to individual parameters like length, width and height.
Key Points to consider:
Subfloor Placement:
The Triotherm Insulated door upstand is typically positioned on top of the subfloor (raft).
Floor Insulation:
Since floor insulation is usually placed on top of the subfloor, the Triotherm Insulated Door Upstand will also be located above the subfloor. Extending the upstand downwards won't improve insulation performance.
Finished Floors:
For finished floors, the Triotherm Insulated Door Upstand can be attached to the floor slab.
Heat Loss Minimization:
The insulated door upstand should be designed to minimize heat loss for the entire height of the floor structure. A simple insulating strip laid on top of a concrete upstand won't have the same heat retention effect.
